Indoor plumbing is nonexistent in Abiyunze, a village found in the Ngoma District of Rwanda. The lack of clean water brought heartbreaking hardships to this village. Kabano, a husband and father of four, shares the challenges they were up against:
“We faced dire consequences. Communicable diseases like worms, malaria and colds plagued our community. Countless trips to the hospital became the norm, disrupting our lives significantly.”
Incredible transformation has taken place in Abiyunze as World Relief Rwanda introduced a project foused on water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH), including the distribution of 20 Liters water filters. “Our community has experienced a remarkable turnaround,” Kabano exclaims with eyes bright with hope. “Now, clean water is within arm’s reach, thanks to the efficient operation of the water filters.”
Gone are the days when fetching water meant risking health and well-being. “Previously, we had no choice but to resort to muddy sources,” Kabano recalled, “But now, we drink purified water by using these filters.”
The impact on their quality of life has been profound. “The benefits ripple throughout our community,” Kabano explains. “Our children, once frequent victims of communicable diseases, now enjoy good health. Peace and stability have settled into our lives like never before.”
Not only has their own community been transformed, but they’ve also become a beacon of hope for others. “We share our clean water with neighbors, and even travelers passing through our area,” Kabano proudly states. “They come with their jerry cans, knowing they’ll leave here with water that won’t compromise their health.”
This project and their 20 Liters water filter has meant more than clean water. With gratitude, Kabano shares, “It’s given us a new lease on life, one filled with health, prosperity and the promise of a brighter future.”
