Mars Hill

Mars Hill Bible Church in Grand Rapids, Michigan is a community built around desire, longing, and connection, as well as the dream that a mission can be those things without fluff or hype piled on. Since our first public gathering in1999, Mars Hill has been devoted to building an engaged, passionate, spiritually healthy community of people. We’re also devoted to engaging and impacting lives around the world, with initiatives such as providing clean water to the people of Masaka. Working with global partners such as World Relief and local churches and individuals, we’re able to follow the principles of Christ, and serve our fellow brothers and sisters in need.

World Relief

World Relief is a faith-based, non-profit organization working to empower the church to meet the needs of the most vulnerable, building capacity within communities and promoting long-term stability in post-conflict societies. World Relief has been active in Rwanda since the aftermath of the 1994 genocide and they now have a number of development projects in the country, ranging from maternal and child health, microenterprise development, as well as HIV/AIDS prevention and care. 20Liters is the result of a collaboration with Mars Hill, with each partner leveraging each other’s passions and interests. World Relief’s Child Development Project partners with local communities and churches, seeking to strengthen community ownership and sustainability of development efforts.

World Relief works with Mars Hill to organize teams of local volunteers to lead the day-to-day management and organization, including the construction, installation and monitoring of cisterns and filters. Working with several denominations, the unity of churches plays a key role in education as well as implementation, spreading the message about the positive impact clean water has on health and economics.

Rwanda Volunteer Team

At some point, every effort comes down to the individuals who make things happen on a local level, and on a daily basis. The Rwandan Volunteer Team consists of thirteen members of the local churches who have taken a leadership role in their communities. Each team member is trained by Mars Hill, and supervised on a day-to-day basis by World Relief. Without their Herculean efforts, none of this would be possible.
