Fundraising Is For The Birds
Dawn and Judy lead a group of high school girls at Mars Hill Bible Church. So when the Mars Hill Student Ministry was challenged with helping raise funds for 20 Liters in creative ways, their group came up with a “flocking” activity. Tip-toeing the fine line between vandalism and activism, they bought dozens of pink flamingos to stick in residential yards, accompanied by a message that a donation to 20 Liters would allow the victim to choose which yard the flamingos will “fly” to next.
Within days word had spread of the activity, and requests were being made for the flamingos to migrate from home to home. Families wanted to be “flocked” and wanted to “flock” others. The activity not only got the high school girls excited about doing something together, it got a community excited about being involved in helping others [and trashing their neighbors yards at the same time]. It is alarming how a simple, creative idea can catch on and bring people together in support of those in need.
So what’s your idea? How will you get engaged and help engage others in providing access to clean water for the 1 in 8 without? Check out other fundraising ideas, or start setting up your own on our Fundraising page.
