Siyapata Olive

She lost her husband to HIV/AIDS in 1998 and has HIV/AIDS herself. Of the three children that live with her, two are her own and the other is her husband’s from a different woman.

Olive was given a slow-sand filter because she was among the most vulnerable in her community. She has been getting her water from the swamp which is about a 2 hour commute both ways and due to her poverty couldn’t afford to boil the water. As a consequence her family was often sick. Since the filter she has been able to turn that swamp water into drinkable water and her family has been healthy.
